Email to SMS gateway list: Canadian and US addresses and status

This email to SMS gateway list shows each carrier's address format and whether it still delivers in October 2026. In Canada, Bell's gateway is gone, Rogers' reportedly went quiet in 2023 and Telus was still delivering in 2025. Find the old address in your alarm system, replace it with one Welco address, and the alarm reaches the phone again.

Branch UPS emails 6135550109@txt.bellmobility.ca; the Bell gateway replies 250 OK but drops it, so no text arrives. The same alert sent to branch-ups@welco.ai goes through Welco to the phone. The email reaches Welco and the phone shows: “Welco: [Branch 6] UPS on battery, 31 min left at 5:12 AM. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Animation: the old carrier address 6135550109@txt.bellmobility.ca is replaced with the Welco address branch-ups@welco.ai, and alerts arrive again.
  • The format is the 10-digit cellphone number, then @, then the carrier's domain, such as 6135550109@txt.bell.ca.
  • Ended in Canada: Bell on December 31, 2025. Rogers and Fido reportedly stopped around June 2023. More on each network in Canadian mobile networks.
  • Still reported working: Telus msg.telus.com, as of 2025. It has made no promise to stay open.
  • US carriers: AT&T has ended, T-Mobile reportedly stopped and Verizon closes by March 31, 2027.

How the email-to-SMS address format works

Each address is the phone's 10-digit number with no spaces, dashes or leading 1. After the @ comes the carrier's gateway domain. The carrier's mail server turned the email into a text for that number.

Because the domain belongs to a carrier, the address only works while that person stays with that carrier. Port the number to Koodo or Freedom and the old address goes dead, even before a shutdown. Our glossary entry on email-to-SMS gateways explains the idea in more depth.

Replace a gateway address in 15 minutes

This is the short version. For a whole site, use the alarm migration checklist.

  1. Search with the domain list

    Note each system, each gateway address and the person whose phone it reaches.

  2. Set up Welco and invite each person

    Sign up with your work email and verify your business, then email an invite to each person you noted. They join with their own cellphone number and reply YES once.

  3. Swap all the gateway addresses for one Welco address

    Approve the system as a sender in Welco, then put your Welco address where the carrier addresses were.

  4. Test and confirm delivery

    Send a test alarm and check the delivery report for each phone.

A UPS alert sent to a Bell gateway address

A branch office UPS in Ottawa used to email a txt.bellmobility.ca address. That path closed at the end of 2025. Through Welco, the IT lead now gets this.

Frequently asked questions

What is the email to SMS format for a phone number?

Use the 10-digit cellphone number with no spaces, dashes or country code, then @, then the carrier's domain. A Bell number looked like 6135550109@txt.bell.ca. Several of these domains no longer deliver, so check the status column before using one.

Which carriers still support email to text?

In Canada, Telus was still reported delivering in 2025. Bell, Rogers and Fido have stopped. In the US, US Cellular email to text was reported working in 2026, and Verizon's gateway works for some senders until March 31, 2027. None of the working ones has promised to stay open.

Why are some carriers marked as reported?

Only Bell, AT&T and Verizon published official notices that we could read. For Rogers, Fido and Telus, the status comes from users posting on carrier and vendor forums. For the other US carriers, it comes from services that test gateways. We link those sources so you can check them.

The gateways were free. What does one Welco address cost?

Welco has plans built on monthly message credits, with no per-user fees and no setup fee. A short alarm uses one credit on any carrier. The 7-day free trial includes 15 credits, and the pricing page lists the plans in US dollars.

How current is this gateway list?

The updated date on this page shows when we last read the sources. Bell gave notice, but Rogers changed its gateway with no notice anyone could find. Check that date before relying on any row, and test with a real alarm to a real phone.

Is there one email address that texts any carrier?

Not from the carriers. Each gateway only reached its own customers. A Welco address does that job. Your system emails it once, and Welco texts everyone who joined and replied YES, on any Canadian or US carrier.
