ManageEngine OpManager SMS alerts through an email profile
An OpManager SMS alert shows the admin on call the device, the alarm and the poll time when a core switch stops answering polls. OpManager already sends alarms through notification profiles, so you add one Email profile for your Welco address. There is no SMS modem to attach and no carrier gateway address to keep alive.

A network map watched by OpManager: five hosts answer pings until idf-3b-sw goes down (Not responding) and the monitor raises the alert. The email reaches Welco and the phone shows: “Welco: [idf-3b-sw] Switch not responding, probably down, 5:22 AM. Reply STOP to opt out.”
OpManager alarm paging, old way and new
SMS profile or a mailbox
- The SMS profile wants a GSM modem or a carrier email-to-text address.
- Bell retired its gateway at the end of 2025, so profiles pointed at a Bell address stopped turning alarms into texts.
- Critical alarms wait in a mailbox until somebody opens it.
- Each new on-call admin means editing profile after profile.
Email profile to Welco
- One Email profile sends every chosen alarm to a single Welco address.
- The admin on call gets device, alarm and time in one text.
- Nights go to whoever is on call, set once in Welco.
- Your other email profiles keep running exactly as they do now.
What you need before you start
Give yourself 15 minutes and an OpManager login that can edit notification profiles. Your current OpManager profiles keep working. Other monitors follow the same pattern on the IT alerts sent as texts overview.
- Working mail server settings in OpManager. If it already emails alarms, you are set.
- Your Welco address, which you get after you start free and verify your business.
- A short list of devices that deserve a text at night. Core switches and firewalls are a good start.
- An invite for each admin, who joins with their own cellphone. Phones confirm with a YES reply before any alarm reaches them. No app is needed.
Set up an OpManager SMS alert in 5 steps
In current builds, notification profiles live under Settings, then Notifications. Older builds group them under Admin. The profile steps are the same.
Check OpManager's mail server settings
Open the mail server settings and note the From address. Send the built-in test mail to yourself to confirm OpManager can reach your mail server.
Approve that From address in Welco
Add OpManager's From address to your approved-sender list. After that, only mail from that address can trigger texts for your team.
Create an Email notification profile
Add a notification profile and choose the Email type, not SMS. Put your Welco address in To. Keep the subject short: the device name, the alarm and the severity.
Choose criteria, devices and time window
Pick the alarm criteria worth a text, such as device down and threshold violations. Then pick the devices or business views it covers. Leave the time window open if Welco will route by hour.
- Tick the option to notify when the alarm clears only if your team wants the all-clear.
- Add a short delay if your build offers one, so a single missed poll doesn't send a text.
Test the profile and save
Use the profile's test action to send a sample. Turn on Welco's dry-run mode first to check the wording before any phone buzzes.

An OpManager threshold alarm as a text
Threshold alarms carry the monitor, the value and the limit. That is what an admin needs on a lock screen, minus the links and footer.
Alert email from opmanager@nms.example.com, subject “Alarm: CPU Utilization of vm-host-yyc-06 is 97%”. Welco trims it to one text of 89 characters: “Welco: [vm-host-yyc-06] CPU 97%, over the 90% limit at 11:08 PM. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Text received: Welco: [vm-host-yyc-06] CPU 97%, over the 90% limit at 11:08 PM. Reply STOP to opt out.

Want it even shorter? Welco's alert trimming cuts every alert to the lines you choose.
OpManager settings that keep phones quiet
OpManager can raise a lot of alarms. A few choices save texts for the ones that need a person. School board IT teams use the same ideas, as the school IT alerts page shows.
Critical only on the phone
Select device down and Critical threshold alarms in the profile criteria. Attention and Trouble alarms stay in the console and in email.
Clear alarms by choice
Notify on clear only if the night admin wants good news too. A Welco rule can also send clears to a smaller group than the down alarms.
Downtime schedules for planned work
A device downtime schedule pauses monitoring during maintenance. No alarm is raised, so no text goes out while you patch.
A delay for flapping devices
A device that drops one poll and comes right back shouldn't wake anyone. Use the profile's delay where your build has it, and keep repeats off for one text per alarm.
Separate profiles for separate teams
Give network devices and servers their own profiles, each with a clear subject prefix. Welco routing rules read the prefix and text the right admin.
Day phone and night phone
The time window works per profile. If your on-call person changes weekly, send nights to whoever is on call from Welco instead.
Parent devices first, then flood limits
Set a parent device for hosts behind each switch, so one outage raises one alarm. Welco's flood limits cap any burst that still comes through.
Fixing a missing OpManager text
Go from OpManager toward the phone. Stop at the first place the alarm is missing.
