AT&T txt.att.net not working since June 17, 2025: what to do

If txt.att.net is not working for your alarms, it is because AT&T ended email-to-text on June 17, 2025. You can have those texts back today by changing one address per system. Alarms still sent to number@txt.att.net or number@mms.att.net go nowhere, and reports say Cricket and FirstNet phones lost it too. Put your Welco address where the AT&T one was.

Replaces email-to-text from

  • AT&T

Published:

Door panel emails 5551234567@txt.att.net; the AT&T gateway replies 250 OK but drops it, so no text arrives. The same alert sent to door-alarms@welco.ai goes through Welco to the phone. The email reaches Welco and the phone shows: “Welco: [Main office] Rear door forced open at 2:14 AM. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Animation: the old carrier address 5551234567@txt.att.net is replaced with the Welco address door-alarms@welco.ai, and alerts arrive again.
  • AT&T's support notice says email-to-text ended on June 17, 2025 (read Oct 5, 2026).
  • Both txt.att.net and mms.att.net are covered. AT&T named no replacement address.
  • Cricket and FirstNet phones were reportedly part of the same change.
  • This one is finished, so the work is finding every old AT&T address and replacing it.

Your AT&T alarm path, before and after the swap

Alarms sent to txt.att.net

  • The alarm email leaves on time, and no phone ever shows it.
  • The system log says sent, so the silence looks like a quiet night.
  • Every person is a separate carrier address you keep up by hand.
  • Someone who changes carrier drops off the list without a sound.

Alarms sent to your Welco address

  • The same email becomes one short text on each confirmed phone.
  • A delivery report shows each phone's result.
  • One address in the panel reaches several phones at once.
  • Rules can send night alarms only to the person on call.

When did AT&T stop email to text?

AT&T ended email-to-text on June 17, 2025. Its support article on email-to-text says that from that date, you can't send or receive texts using email. News of the change spread in early April 2025, as Slashdot reported.

That covers txt.att.net for plain texts and mms.att.net for picture messages. NVRtxt's carrier report says Cricket and FirstNet phones were included.

Unlike Verizon's slow vtext phase-out, there is nothing left to test here. If an alarm still points at an AT&T address, it has been failing since that date.

Did the AT&T shutdown hit my alarms?

  1. 1.Does any system email an address ending in @txt.att.net or @mms.att.net?
  2. 2.Is anyone on your call list on Cricket or FirstNet, reached through an email address?
  3. 3.Has an alarm since mid-June 2025 shown up in a log, but nobody got a text for it?

Answer the 3 questions to see your result.

Where forgotten AT&T addresses hide

Most teams fix the main alarm list and miss the rest. Check these places too, because each one can still hold a dead address. T-Mobile tmomail.net addresses hide in the same spots.

Mail groups and shared contacts

A distribution list in Microsoft 365, or a Google Group, may include a gateway address as a member. Every alarm sent to the group then loses that person's text. See how Outlook forwarding to text works with Welco.

Second and third contacts

Backup contacts in an old dialer or HMI user list are easy to overlook. They matter most on the night the first person doesn't answer.

Small boxes on the network

UPS network cards, generator controllers and door panels each keep their own email recipient list. Log in to each one and read the list.

Fix txt.att.net alarms in 15 minutes

You're replacing a path that is already gone, so there's no need to run old and new together. Sites with many panels can follow the alarm migration checklist.

  1. Write down each AT&T address

For every system, note the address, the phone number in it and whose phone it is.

  2. Open your Welco account

Sign up with your work email, book the short intro call and get your business verified. Nothing is sent until that check is done.

  3. Invite each person and get a YES

Email an invite to each person on that list. They enter their own AT&T number on the join page and reply YES. The confirmation text names your company, so they know who is texting.

  4. Put your Welco address in place of the AT&T one

Approve the system's sending address in Welco first. Then replace @txt.att.net with your Welco address and trigger a test alarm.

  5. Tell the team what to expect

Alarm texts now start with Welco:. Ask everyone to save the sender, so a 2 AM alarm doesn't look like spam.

A door alarm that went quiet, now as a text

Access control panels send long event emails. This one used to go to an AT&T address. Through Welco, the guard on duty gets one line.

Alert email from access-panel@campus.example.edu, subject “Event Notification: Door Forced Open”. Welco trims it to one text of 95 characters: “Welco: [Stair 3 Exit] Door forced open at 1:16 AM. Check panel ACP-02. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Text received: Welco: [Stair 3 Exit] Door forced open at 1:16 AM. Check panel ACP-02. Reply STOP to opt out.

Systems that often sent alarms to AT&T phones

Any system that can send email could have used the gateway. If you typed an AT&T address into one of these, it needs the same fix.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a new AT&T address for email-to-text?

No. AT&T's notice ends the service and doesn't name a replacement address. Changing txt.att.net to mms.att.net won't help either, since both were closed. The working fix is to send the alarm email to an alert service such as Welco, which then texts the AT&T phone.

Can AT&T customers still receive alarm texts from Welco?

Yes. AT&T only ended the email-to-text gateway. Normal texts to AT&T mobile numbers still arrive, and that's how Welco sends. The person confirms their number once with YES, then gets alarm texts like any other message.

Can I ask AT&T to keep email-to-text on for my business account?

AT&T's notice applies to everyone and doesn't describe any way to keep the gateway. We'd plan on it staying closed. Moving your alarm emails to Welco takes about 15 minutes per system once your business is verified.

Were FirstNet and Cricket phones part of the AT&T shutdown?

Reports say yes. NVRtxt lists both as losing email-to-text with AT&T, and Cricket's own cricketwireless.net addresses were part of that. If anyone on call uses those phones, treat their gateway address as dead and replace it with your Welco address.

How do I know which of my alarms were missed after June 17, 2025?

Compare your alarm log with what people remember receiving. Any alarm in the log since that date, sent to an AT&T address, produced no text. Use that list to decide which systems to move first, starting with the ones that run unattended at night.

txt.att.net was free. What does Welco cost?

Welco charges for monthly message credits, not per person, and there is no hardware or setup fee. A short alarm uses one credit. The 7-day free trial includes 15 credits, enough to test each panel you move, and plans are on the pricing page.

Who on my team has to make the AT&T switch?

Whoever can edit the panel's email recipients, often the person who set it up. Phone owners only open an invite and reply YES. If texts still go missing after the swap, work through why alarm texts stop.
