Allworx voicemail to text for the on-call phone
An Allworx voicemail text lets whoever covers the night line hear a tenant, branch manager or plant operator tonight. Have the mailbox email each message to your Welco address with the recording attached. The text names the mailbox and caller, with a link that plays it.

A call from (902) 555-0127 rings Mailbox 205; Allworx records a 0:33 voicemail and emails it with voicemail.wav attached. The email reaches Welco and the phone shows: “Welco: Allworx voicemail, Service Desk (205), from (902) 555-0127, 0:33. Listen: welco.ai/v/A9wr3K Reply STOP to opt out.”
The Allworx night line before and after Welco
Night line today
- A message left at 7 p.m. on a holiday Monday waits until someone opens the voicemail on Tuesday.
- The person on call has to dial in from outside to check for messages.
- Forwarding the line to a cell rings that person for every call, urgent or not.
Night line with Welco
- Each message on the night line reaches the on-call phone as a text.
- The link plays the recording in the browser, and the caller's number is right there.
- Staff mailboxes and the day line work exactly as they do now.
How this works with an Allworx system
Any system that can send an email works with Welco. Here's how to set up Allworx for urgent voicemail texts.
Allworx can email voicemail messages to an address. Welco reads that email and sends a text. There is no Allworx plug-in, and Welco has no ready-made Allworx connector, because none is needed.
Menu names differ between Allworx versions. The steps below say what to look for, so you can find it on yours. The usual starting point is the after-hours night line.
- Admin access to the Allworx web admin pages.
- An outgoing mail server set in Allworx, so it can send email off the network.
- A Welco account with your business verified. Start free to get your Welco address.
- Whoever covers the line, joined from a Welco invite on their own cellphone. Each person replies YES once.
Set up Allworx voicemail texts in 5 steps
Check outgoing email in Allworx
Find the email or SMTP server settings in the Allworx admin pages. Make sure a mail server is set and a test email reaches you. If your server can't send outside, send it through your Microsoft 365 relay instead.
Choose the mailbox for the urgent line
Pick the mailbox callers reach after hours, such as a service desk or night line. Send your auto attendant's urgent option to it if you have one.
Turn on voicemail email with the audio attached
In that mailbox's message notification settings, add your Welco address. Choose the option that sends a copy of the message, not a notice only. Keep the original in Allworx.
Approve the sender and invite the night crew
Add the Allworx From address to your Welco approved sender addresses. Then invite whoever covers the night line and set the hours with time-based on-call routing.
Leave a test message
Call the line from a cellphone and leave a few words. Check that the text names the mailbox and that the link plays on the on-call person's phone.

What a notice-only email gives you
If the mailbox only sends a notice, Welco still texts it. You'll know a message is waiting, but there's nothing to play.
Alert email from allworx@phones.example.com, subject “New message in mailbox 230”. Welco trims it to one text of 85 characters: “Welco: New message in Allworx box 230 (Night Line) at 4:51 AM. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Text received: Welco: New message in Allworx box 230 (Night Line) at 4:51 AM. Reply STOP to opt out.

Tips for Allworx voicemail texts
One urgent mailbox is enough to start
Leave staff mailboxes alone. Point only the night line at Welco, live with it for a week, then decide if another mailbox needs it.
Forwarded through Outlook is fine
Some offices let Allworx email a shared mailbox, then forward from there. That works once the forwarding address is an approved sender. See Microsoft 365 forwarding.
Keep the text to one message
Allworx emails are short, so most fit in one text. If yours adds a long footer, a trimming rule cuts it off before sending.
Agree who calls back
Two people can share the night line on one rule. Welco texts both together and never calls anyone, so decide who returns the call.
Why didn't the Allworx text show up?
Look in the Welco feed first. It lists every email that arrived and why anything was refused.
No email in the feed
- What it means
- Allworx didn't send it. Recheck its mail server settings.
A refused sender in the feed
- What it means
- The Allworx From address isn't approved yet.
A text without a link
- What it means
- The mailbox sends a notice only, not a copy of the message.
One phone silent, another fine
- What it means
- That person may not have replied YES yet, or the number is a landline.
