AVEVA InTouch (formerly Wonderware) alarm SMS by email
AVEVA InTouch (Wonderware) alarm SMS needs only an alarm email: add your Welco address where InTouch, or a tool beside it, sends alarms today. When a feedwater tank drops to LOW LOW near midnight, whoever has call reads the alarm comment, the reading and the time on their phone. Your InTouch application doesn't change.

A AVEVA InTouch HMI screen with a Batching process mimic and an alarm summary: the row Mixer4_MotorOL, MIXER 4 MOTOR OVERLOAD, appears UNACK_ALM with priority 100 above two acknowledged alarms. The email reaches Welco and the phone shows: “Welco: [Batching] Mixer 4 motor OVERLOAD, unacked at 2:33 AM. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Alarms on a screen nobody watches
- Alarms wait in the InTouch alarm window until the morning crew walks in.
- HMI emails to
vtext.comaddresses stop getting through as gateways close. - Raw state codes like UNACK_ALM and a node name fill every message.
- A line trip sends dozens of alarm emails in a minute.
Alarms on the on-call phone
- The operator on call reads the comment, the reading and the time.
- Texts come from alerts-only numbers, not a carrier gateway.
- Trim rules turn state codes into one plain line.
- Flood limits cap the texts while InTouch keeps the full list.
InTouch alarms and email
Any system that can send an email works with Welco for SCADA and HMI alarm texts. Here's how to set up AVEVA InTouch.
InTouch is an HMI (the screens operators use to watch a process and answer alarms). Sites get alarm email out of InTouch through a script, an AVEVA add-on, a reporting tool or a separate alarm notifier. Whichever you use, Welco only needs the email, plus these.
- An InTouch alarm email that goes somewhere now, or an integrator who can add one.
- A Welco account with your company verified. Start free to make one.
- The operators on call, each joined from a Welco invite on their own phone. Each one confirms with YES before alarms go to it.
Set up Wonderware InTouch alarm SMS in 5 steps
Look for the email or SMTP notification settings in InTouch, or in the tool that sends your alarm email. Your integrator will know where they live, and the change takes about half an hour.
Find what sends the alarm email
Open a recent alarm email and look at the From address and the wording. That points to the script or tool you need to change.
Approve the sender in Welco
Add that From address to Welco's sender allow list. Email from any other address is refused, so nobody else can text your operators.
Add your Welco address as a recipient
In the email or SMTP settings of that tool, add your Welco address. Keep any existing mailboxes so the full alarm is still on file.
Limit email to alarms that need a person
If the tool can filter by alarm group or priority, send only the urgent ones. You can also filter later in Welco with an alarm rule.
Test on a safe alarm
Toggle a test tag into alarm and look at the text and the Welco feed. A test run in Welco logs the result without sending a real text.

Sample feedwater alarm, email and text
HMI alarm emails often carry the raw alarm state and node name. The text keeps the comment, the reading and the time an operator needs.
Alert email from hmi-alarms@plant.example.com, subject “ALARM: FWTank_Level LOLO”. Welco trims it to one text of 92 characters: “Welco: [Utilities] Feedwater tank level LOW LOW, 12.5% at 11:57 PM. Reply STOP to opt out.”
Text received: Welco: [Utilities] Feedwater tank level LOW LOW, 12.5% at 11:57 PM. Reply STOP to opt out.

These are sample emails. Your InTouch alarm wording may differ, and a one-text alert rule adapts to it. More plant examples are in manufacturing alarm texts.
Tips for InTouch alarm texts
Plants have more alarms than people. Text the ones that need a person now.
Send nights and weekends to one phone
Use on-call routing so after-hours alarms reach the on-call operator. Weekday alarms can go to the control room lead.
Leave acknowledged alarms out
If the email includes acknowledgements or returns to normal, drop them with a rule. Texts then mean an alarm is live and unanswered.
Hold back the flood after a trip
A line trip can raise a flood of alarms, dozens in a minute. Flood control keeps each phone to a few texts.
Split by alarm group
A rule can read the group, such as Batching or Utilities, and text that area's operator first.
